"TENS in the Toolbox"

A TENS unit (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is a common tool long used to help with the pain of childbirth across Europe. Learn how to add this tool/skill to your doula toolbox and help your clients to reduce labor pain, especially the pain of back labor.

Get a chance to try a unit on yourself, learn the proper protocols on safe use, how to introduce it to your clients and their providers, and learn about the research and studies on the effectiveness of TENS in labor. If you wish, purchase your own unit for use with your clients after the training.

Obstetric TENS has been found to be an effective technique for pain control in over 80 percent of births. Many studies have been done in Europe with marked success, especially for back pain in labor. This is a great addition to your doula skill set and will increase client satisfaction and reduce pain, quickly becoming one of your favorite methods for helping your clients cope and handle childbirth pain, especially that dreaded back labor!

For many years, in cultures around the world, rebozos have been used by birthing women and their support team to help pregnant and birthing women to feel more comfortable, relax, help position babies, ease labor and back pains, conserve mother's energy and care for a newborn.
